Cruz de Malta was my first yerba mate when I first imbibed in 1985. It is still the standard brand that I always have on my shelf. I use many others and like most of them for their differences, but Cruz de Malta is my base. I often use additional flavorings or enhancements including anise seed with vanilla, apple spice tea with cinnamon, orange zest, lemon grass, etc. And this brand is usually the base for two reasons; it blends well and it is usually among the least expensive.
I absolutely love this yerba! It's very smoky and bold, it lasts a long time, and it's cheaper than other comparable yerbas. I highly reccommend it, and I always like to have some on hand.

If you're careful not to allow the water to start boiling and don't leave the mate standing for a long time once you've poured water, this is one of the best yerbas out there. Not too strong, not smoky, flavorful and long-lasting.
