Brazil & Uruguay

Yerba mate is grown in the southern region of Brazil. The most popular style is very small leaf cut with a good amount of dust. They use large mates (cups) with a bombilla and drink on it all day. It is interesting to note that most if the yerba mate sold in Uruguay is produced in Brazil because not much of the land in Uruguay is suitable for growing yerba mate.

Brazil also produces a special yerba mate for export. There are currently several producers (that we know of) in Brazil that use a new drying technique where no smoke or gas fumes come in contact with the yerba at any time during the production process. All of our unsmoked organic yerba mate comes from these producers who have processed the yerba mate to our specifications.
